Mentoring the Image Troopers

In 2012 I was invited to present and review at what turned out to be a fabulous week-long celebration of photography in Kristiansund North, in Norway, called Nordic Light. Imagine my surprise when the other people flown in from the USA were Greg Gorman, Bruce Davidson, Mary Ellen Mark, and Abe Frajndlich. A good time was had by all and naturally I will never forget it. One of the highlights was seeing Mary Ellen's documentaries Streetwise and Prom.

You never know what might come out of something like this, and I was so happy when, a year or so later, two beautiful photographers, Janne Amelie Svit and Merete Haseth, who I met there asked me if I would mentor them. The Image Troopers and I Skyped for a couple of hours and another year passed before we were able to meet up in London and spend a good amount time meeting (and eating). We got through a lot and I worried that their heads were spinning, and maybe that we'd had too much fun.

"Julie Grahame is a multiple energy bomb, full of dry and witty british humor, a warm intellect, sharp observations and a dedicated heart for photography. We learned quite a lot - while laughing - a fantastic way of learning, if you ask us!"
